someone else suggested I run following to help resolve this issue... sudo apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" install sddm I did this today and after reboot I was able to select LXQt desktop and managed to get it working. I don't know the details of why it worked as I am pretty ...

Thanks Rex for your prompt reply, I did as you suggested and after restart, I was able to select LxQt at the login screen.
