I just have found your post on arch forum and you should know you won't have desktop/my computer/trash by default. You can create shortcuts to them. On dsktop you will only see icons of files/folders which are in ~/Desktop folder. I slowly run out of ideas... Does something change if you type in ter...

I'm Arch user, I'm using "normal" PCmanFM and I have icons, so there's no need to install packages from AUR.
Please show me what do you have in /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc file.

7: if i switch to lxde can i expect it to remain a useable desktop for years to come or are there plans to go unuseable like gnome/unity? What is your definition of "unusable"??? As far as I know, GNOME, Unity, LXDE, etc are all usable but perhaps you mean easier to use? LXDE hasn't reach...

You should link like this:
than you can drag&drop but there is no "empty trash" option under right click... I think there should be easier and better way to put trash on desktop.

Mouse settings are not in LXDE preferences, they're in openbox preferences.
