Interesting. My panel changes seem to stick. You might try deleting ~/.config/lxpanel/default (which is an empty directory on my system) then recreating it as a symlink to ~/.config/lxpanel/LXDE.

I don't know what the problem is, but you might try renaming your /home/anttoni/.config/openbox directory to something else (perhaps /home/anttoni/.config/openbox.bak) and logging out and back in and letting openbox regenerate /home/anttoni/.config/openbox.

I see the same problem in Fedora Rawhide. I believe it's related to the problems with lxpolkit.

I use gmixer with Fedora 15 and Fedora 16, and pnmixer with Fedora Rawhide. Not sure what Mint uses

I think Fedora with LXDE is better (than Fedora with Gnome shell)
I think Ubuntu with LXDE is better (than Ubuntu with Unity)
I think Linux Mint with LXDE is very nice (but Cinnamon looks interesting)

I think you should try various distros until you find one you like
