The fact that nobody has answered this post, is beyond me!

LXDE seems to be part of the Debian translation team.

Hi,

@ firmit,thanks for answering this post :-)

@ 0010 and everyone

1.) I think we should find a way so people can easily translate LXDE components. I do not know how to do it myself currently.

2.) We need to improve documentation. I believe the wiki at http://wiki.lxde.org is a good way to start it. Please help translating pages from English to your language or any language you speak. We have set up different languages already. If you would like to see another language added, please get in touch with us via the contact form at http://lxde.org/contact. We can set up other languages if needed.

Thanks for your offer to help. I am looking forward to your contribution!

oh, hi,
i just did not realize about that information, my fault. I don't have much time lately but i'll try to collaborate, for sure!
i'll also try try to get familiar with debian translation system, i've never used it.
As for the easy way so ppl can translate easily, there's always launchpad, right?

Launchpad is a great system. I am looking forward to is becoming free and open source software. The Ubuntu guys had told me, it is going to be soon (within the next 12 months :-). We have to look into our management of translation work. I think launchpad has good chances to become a preferential system. Thanks for your contribution!

I would like to suggest Transifex as an alternative to Launchpad and to discuss the pros and cons of each system here in this thread:

Launchpad
Pros:
  • large user base, this means a lot of potential translators
  • beginner-friendly
Cons:
  • bad workflow for getting translations upstream
  • getting translations into a a new release requires manual intervention: It has to be downloaded from launchpad and added to LXDE's SVN.
  • known to produce bad translations. This is the downside of being beginner-friendly
Transifex
Pros:
  • More professional
  • works with nearly every VCS: CVS, SVN, git, ...
  • Translations are automagically pushed back to upstream's VCS
Cons:
  • Requires ether to be set up on a server (which also mean maintainance) or to use fedorahosted.org
  • Smaller userbase
I have to admit that this list may be incomplete and subjective, so I'd like to hear more arguments and opinions please.

Well, guys, maybe it is time to stop talking and just post language files to launchpad or somewhere else?
I'm really surprised that nobody has done it yet....

Hi to all. i can help to translate the wiki to the spanish, but i have no idea to do the category index (by example: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Category:LXDE_Components) just here: http://wiki.lxde.org/es/index.php?title ... &redlink=1
Where is the wiki documentation? the index is automatically generated when i add the sub-pages with each category?
I'm from Argentina, in this country the language is spanish (also know as spanish latinoamerican). bye bye!!

Hola a todos, yo puedo ayudar a traducir la wiki al español, pero no tengo idea como hacer para generar el indice de categorias
(por ejemplo: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Category:LXDE_Components) justo aca http://wiki.lxde.org/es/index.php?title ... &redlink=1
Donde esta la documentacion de la wiki? El indice se autogenera a medida que voy agregando las paginas con cada categoria?
Soy de Argentina, en este pais el idioma es español (tambien conocido como español latinoamericano). Salu2!!

ATM we are sending translations over the mailing list or directly to the developers. Elias already registered LXDE in launchpad, but there seem to be problems for a project with different components. Two days ago he was very pro Launchpad, but yesterday he asked me if I could set up a Transifex instance... so obviously he has changed his mind, but please don't ask me for details.

I don't mind to wait and discuss this few days, because the decision we make now will need to work for a longer time.

I think Transifex is better for this project, because the development of LXDE is not made in Launchpad. Launchpad is not (afaik) so flexible than Transifex. But I still like Launchpad much. :)

Yes, you're right. For me it looks that Transifex and fedorahosted.org would be the best solution.
