Empty Menu in lxpanel

Hi,

I'm running Arch, recently updated to the newest lxpanel and lost my menu, but only when the menu is in the top position, anywhere else and it works just fine. I tried deleting the standard LXDE profile and making a new one, but to no avail. I should mention that I'm running Compiz as my WM, and the only error message I get when I start lxpanel from the terminal is "lxpanel: can't load netstat plugin" but I'm not sure if that's related. Let me know if more information is needed. Thanks!

-Kyle

Same problem in PCLOS, after update menu button in top position brings up empty menu box from bottom position. Only happens on top position.

Just as a info, this is not a arch specific problem. I got the same problem at my debian testing:

Just something I installed to make editing Menu easier in LXDE.

I don't know if this post will help any for lokeee , k6b , and Fisch.666 though.

My LXDE AntiX install has been upgraded recently ,(last couple of days), with

Code: Select all

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
with Debian Testing repos so I have the latest LXDE from Debian Wheezy.

Latest upgrade from Debian Testing to Lxpanel 5.8 gave me the same grief guys after latest apt-get dist-upgrade. lxpanel on top of Desktop Menu=empty. Place it on r/h side of Desktop. Menu works. Place it on Bottom of Desktop. Menu Works. Place it on l/h side of Desktop. Menu works. I run wbar on the bottom of Fluxbox with lxpanel preferably on top with conky on l/h side of desktop. So placing lxpanel somewhere besides on top of Desktop was not a option for me because I am not going to run wbar on top and lxpanel on the bottom. Just personal pref is all.

The way I went about fixing this pain in the butt was to download debian squeeze 5.6 version. Uninstall testing version 5.8 and dpkg -I the 5.6 version in squeeze that I downloaded. Lock that version so it would not upgrade. Then log out and back in . lxpanel placed on top of screen. Menu works right now.

I guess lxpanel 5.8 ain't ready for prime time yet. I read the bug reports first (there are a few already for August). No responses yet from lxde team.

Same here, i've downgraded the lxpanel debian package back to 0.5.6-1 because there is also a bug in the battery applet which shows always a 100% load with 0.5.8-1:

Problem fixed with this package: lxpanel - 0.5.8-1ubuntu3

You need to update/upgrade your system and it should work. I'm using Lubuntu 11.10 now and that package fixed the issue.

I've upgrade the package from Arch repositories and I still have the bug if I put the menu on top position, in other places there is no problemImage and as the debian user said, the battery monitor always show 100% even if the battery drains out

Got this problem aswell, using Arch Linux. Solved it by moving the whole panel to the bottom. ;-) But I'd prefer to have it at the top. Any suggestions?

So if you noticed in our posts. We had to down grade our lxpanel from 0.5.8 to 0.5.6 to have menu working with panel on top.

@amjjawad . I dist-upgraded on

Code: Select all

# apt-history installed
2011-11-13 00:31:44 upgrade lxpanel 0.5.6-1 0.5.8-1
2011-11-13 00:31:44 status half-configured lxpanel 0.5.6-1
2011-11-13 00:31:44 status unpacked lxpanel 0.5.6-1
2011-11-13 00:31:44 status half-installed lxpanel 0.5.6-1
2011-11-13 00:31:44 status half-installed lxpanel 0.5.6-1
2011-11-13 00:31:44 status half-installed lxpanel 0.5.6-1
2011-11-13 00:31:45 status half-installed lxpanel 0.5.6-1
2011-11-13 00:31:45 status unpacked lxpanel 0.5.8-1
2011-11-13 00:31:45 status unpacked lxpanel 0.5.8-1
2011-11-13 00:33:28 status unpacked lxpanel 0.5.8-1
2011-11-13 00:33:29 status half-configured lxpanel 0.5.8-1
2011-11-13 00:33:29 status installed lxpanel 0.5.8-1

On my Motorcycle Shop Desktop with Fluxbox and LxPanel installed on it. This is a different setup than my Amrel Laptop.

And on 2011-11-13 Debian testing still has not fixed the empty menu issue yet in 0.5.8-1 yet. I guess Arch has not either from what I have read. I guess because you Lubuntu guys run Debian Unstable or The Ubuntu Dev are more on the ball since you say your version is fixed. :mrgreen:
