A21p/ATI Rage Mobility 128 display settings

Post by rikjwells »

I have recently installed Lubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) on my IBM ThinkPad A21p notebook which has an ATI Rage Mobility 128 having previously used Xubuntu 10.04. I'm having trouble with configuring LXDE for the 1600x1200 resolution. I get what seems to be a wider screen overlayed on the 4:3 display in fuzzy vertical bands to the right with, of course, missing sectons.

I can get fair resolution output (unknown resolution) through the analog VGA using the keyboard display switcher to an external monitor but that's nowhere near as good a screen as the built-in one (the reason I love the machine).

I have tried various hacking about with xrandr without success and lxrandr but that doesn't seem to be able to effect proper change. There is complaint by xrandr:

Code: Select all

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
I have not found anything anywhere to help resolve this.

I previously managed (in the murky mist of history) to get XFCE to work properly but that was using XOrg ... Any guidance please?

Thanks in advance,
Rik
