I love to read lists of favorite lightweight applications.

My own list of programs I commonly use and/or light-weight alternatives is here:
http://www.distasis.com/cpp/osrclist.htm

Some other applications that might work really well with LXDE are:
obtheme - edit OpenBox themes and xbm files, written in Python
http://xyne.archlinux.ca/projects/obtheme/
luser - low resource GUI to edit groups users belong to, written in Python
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=47053
luser tarball available:
http://knoppmyth.net/repo/larch/larch5.3/i686/
usermode - useful utilities to mount files, change passwords
https://fedorahosted.org/usermode/
gscan2pdf - Don't know how lightweight this is, but a very useful all in one scanning tool
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/gscan2pdf
gtklp - includes a nice print queue
http://gtklp.sourceforge.net/
autocutsel - am using this with urxvt and my other programs to get things between clipboards
http://www.nongnu.org/autocutsel/
dclock
http://opencircuitdesign.com/~tim/programs/
diffh - for graphical file compare (just need a browser)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/diffh/
lcal and pcal - for calendars
http://pcal.sourceforge.net/
alsamixergui
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/alsamixergui
xdiskusage
http://xdiskusage.sourceforge.net/
flrec - recorder gui, uses sox
http://www.matteolucarelli.net/flrec/index_en.htm
umix - nice alternative to aumix
http://umix.sourceforge.net/
grafx2 - lightweight paint program
http://code.google.com/p/grafx2/
fbreader - ebook reader
http://www.fbreader.org/
mupdf - very lightweight pdf viewer. There's a plugin for embedding in Firefox on Windows. Would be nice if one could be made for Linux.
http://mupdf.com/
wkhtmltopdf - great for converting html/css to documents (pdf/postscript)
http://code.google.com/p/wkhtmltopdf/
uzbl - webkit based browser with JavaScript support
http://www.uzbl.org/

The gpe tools are really nice, useful and very well integrated. Some are available in the Debian package system for desktop computers (not just handheld devices).
http://gpe.linuxtogo.org/

Could think of several others, but am sure this is more than enough for starters.

Audacious is a great music player although QmmP is lighter and has the most excellent ProjectM visual plugin:

Ran across some other lightweight applications to add to the list.

If you're system has trouble running stellarium or you want a lightweight astronomy program, check out nightsky:
http://nightsky.sourceforge.net/

For a very simple, lightweight GTK+ 2 image viewer, there's NeonView:
