Please help me remove menu items

I removed Totem and Rhythmbox from my Acer Aspire One, since I now use Exaile and VLC. However, their icons still remain in the main start menu. (They don't do anything or report any error messages, they're just there. Selecting them does nothing.)

I removed the .desktop entries from usr/share/applications and from usr/share/app-install. I did a search for everything Totem, Movie Player, and Rhythmbox and deleted what I found. I've deep-cleaned my cache with BleachBit, and power-cycled the computer twice.

Yet the icons in the Sound & Video subfolder for Movie Player (Totem) and Rhythmbox remain.

How do I remove them? Have I missed something important?

You could delete the contents of ~/.cache/menus and reboot.
You could also check ~/.local/share/applications to see if there is a stray .desktop file there.

You were right, there were stray .desktop files in .local/share/applications.

I wonder: Why didn't PCMan find them when I searched? (I did a search for .desktop files in / and checked the box for hidden files)

In any case, after the reboot, the menu entries are now gone. :)

Thank you, not only for your help, but for your quick reply.
