I have recently installed lubuntu-desktop in Ubuntu 12.04.
In the lxpanel I have a network icon which shows my current network connection status. I have a wired connection [ethernet] which connects automatically at startup. In Unity or Gnome I observed that this icon changed to to arrows [one arrow up, one down] when wired connection was established. But in lubuntu it showed "disconnected" time icon.
Also if I connect to internet via mobile broadband the network icon vanishes!
How can I change this network icon to behave like in Unity or Gnome? I am submitting image decribing the situation.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: network icon problem in lxpanel in lubuntu
Welcome to the lxde forum. Interesting problem. You are aware that support for Lubuntu 12.04 ended October 2013. Did the applet work under Ubuntu 12.04? When the applet disappears do you still have an Internet connection? Do you have Internet connection inspite of the wonky behavior of the applet (both wired and/or wireless)? Can you still boot into your Unity desktop and does the icon behave as it should?
Have you tried to remove and then re-install the network manager?
