Hi,
I have freshly installed Lubuntu 13.10 on an old Advent laptop (1000 MB RAM) which was previously running Ubuntu 12.04. I changed because I felt Unity was a bit heavy for this machine and was quite slow. The installation appeared to have carried through successfully (in fact it told me it had).
However, the new installation does not boot successfully. After the splash screen I get an endlessly repeating black screen with the following:
* Starting LightDM Display Manager (OK)
* Stopping Send an event to indicate plymouth is up (OK)
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Many thanks.

Re: Boot problem after clean install of lubuntu 13.10
I was checking older posts and was surprised that no one had responded to you. I am sure that you did all of the stuff like checking the md5sum and burning the iso at the slowest possible speed, but it sounds like something didn't get installed correctly. Since this was a new install (I assume) why don't you try to re-install. You certainly have enough RAM and if you were running Ubuntu 12.04 the machine is more than capable of running Lubuntu.

Thank you for answering. This issue was thrashed out here:

Seems it's a persistent problem Lubuntu has had with SIS graphics. Have installed Xubuntu instead.

Not lost. I like Lubuntu and use it on my other computer. Would be nice to have a LTS release though.

Just hang on a little longer. Unless there has been a change that I am not aware of Lubuntu 14.04 will be a LTS.
