ubuntu unity vs a lxde-based wm

Post by nitrofurano »

afaik, LXDE appeared designed to netbooks, and it runs awesomelly well on desktops.

meanwhile, Ubuntu is planning to release Unity as window manager defautly starting from Ubuntu 11.04 - the problem is the actual version of Unity is terribly bloated, and doensn't run that fine on old hardware, and maybe on the earlier netbooks as well

this question is not about changing the LXDE development plans, which is very good in the pace it is, but is there some plans of some fork project, or some project based on LXDE, can face Unity features as window manager interface, without being that bloated?
