Laptop Shuts Down

I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 with LXDE installed, and used as my primary desktop software. However, for some reason, when the power cord is unplugged the laptop automatically either shuts down, or goes into sleep/hibernate mode, regardless of how charged the battery is, even if it is fully charged. This does not happen in Gnome or XFCE. Any ideas?

Well clearly something has configured your system to shut down if you have a battery-to-no-battery event.

You need to take this question up with Ubuntu support. Nothing in LXDE does anything with power management, and we do not know how you got LXDE on your system and what might be left over from whatever you were running before. It could be that you are either running a daemon you shouldn't be, or not running a daemon you should be.

I do not suggest reinstalling, at least not yet, until you check out your power management configuration.
