Thnx for answering, after a speedy exhibit up into LXQT, im speculating even as it seems cooler, its under no circumstances once more going to be as mellow as LXDE, i'm a giant aficionado of "if ain't broke, dont fix it, or erm supplant it" so i will be adhering to LXDE in my principal box, surmise I additionally ought to are attempting extra endeavors to stay taught.

I have both LXDE and LXQt installed on Fedora 29 now and both are equally fast. I'm pleased with both.

Developers do not do much anymore with lxde because it isn't fun for them, which does not mean it is dead or dieing. Lxde, or just an openbox-pcmanfm system (lxde without lxsession), is already essentially perfect for what it is designed to be, namely, a very fast, lightweight, basic (no frills), stable, easily configurable and all-inclusive operating system. It lacks only the cosmetic tools and limited GUI's that come with the fat , complicated systems. You can easily install all the Linux apps that they have, so it is not like Lxde lacks apps, or can't perform programs available with them. You just need to install them if they are not present. Lxde will be around as long as there is a Linux kernel.

For more information about what you can do with an LXDE system, see http://lxlinux.com.

It will still be very light but the concept is to "modernize" it I believe. And yes it will not be as light as LXDE.

thnx for replying, after a quick look into LXQT, im guessing while it looks cooler, its not going to be as light as LXDE, I'm a big fan of "if ain't broke, dont fix it, or erm replace it" so I'll be sticking to LXDE in my main box, guess I also need to make more efforts to stay informed ...
thnx again
Cheers

Welcome to the LXDE forums. Of course LXDE is not dead. Lubuntu, a flavor of Ubuntu, appears to be replacing LXDE with LXQT (a merge of LXDE-Qt, an initial Qt flavour of LXDE, and Razor-qt, a project aiming to develop a Qt based desktop environment with similar objectives as the current LXQt). This has been promised by Canonical every year since 2015 and is yet to occur. In addition there are at least 40 plus other distros out there that use LXDE and to my knowledge are continuing to use it. So it looks like LXDE will continue to exist at least for the time being

Hi
I'm a Distro hopper, & i tend to have multiple DEs (usually 3) to use each for specific tasks, everytime i switch Distro, always used LXDE or Openbox as the light GDE, & i gotta say LXDE always been good to me

I'm really not the "look things up" type, to be honest i didnt even know there was LXDE forum, so while having a discussion with a friend of mine about my new distro switch, he told me: "nobody uses LXDE in 2018"
so, whats up, tell me it isnt dead!
