Thanks @seppalta, That was a lot of help. The solution is quite convoluted but I got there. What has to be done to fix this is as follows; 1. Navigate to /usr/share/desktop-directories as root 2. Pcmanfm presents the files in this directory in a VERY confusing way. The real file names are not shown....
