Your problem is that your pcmanfm version is old. It's on version 0.9.7 already and doesn't have this bug anymore. Thanks for the info. on Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) i386, Gnome default, adding the "lxde" package and selecting it on logon, the problem don't occurs (see the screenshot attached).

What you downloaded? The "Debian Live USB Image" (from http://lxde.org/download ?) If so, sounds like you have just copied the .img file to the thumb... I think you must dd it :) * amd64 not restricts to AMD: it is for Intel Core2+ processors too (" amd64 " is only a bad name :P)
