I had the same problem on my Archlinux machine and had to downgrade my "shared-mime-info" package which fixed it.
Not sure about how to do that under ubuntu, sorry.

Make task bar plugin transparent?
If I set lxpanel to transparent it works fine, except for the task bar. Any program I have running shows up as with a plain white/grey background.
Is it possible to make those transparent as well?

Change size of menu icon?
Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to make lxpanel use a larger space and icon for the menu plugin. Can we in any way specify that? I know I can change the icon easily enough, but the standard one is 48x48 and the one I want to use is a rectangle, not a square, at 150x48. If I try to use the 150x48 ...
