Re: Lightweight applications list - please extend it
In light of LXDE moving towards Qt, thought I'd add some lightweight Qt programs to the list. SpeedCrunch - calculator http://www.speedcrunch.org/en_US/index.html Scan Tailor - for use with page scanning http://sourceforge.net/projects/scantailor/ QComicBook - cbr/cbz viewer http://qcomicbook.org/ f...

Re: Microphone check on LXDE (Knoppix/pmagic)?
If you're booting a Linux live distribution, try to find one with Audacity or sox on it. Either program should let you record. They're both available on Windows as well. There's even a portable version of Audacity for Windows. If you need a portable Linux version of Audacity, you can check http://po...

Re: Lightweight applications list - please extend it
Ran across some other lightweight applications to add to the list. If you're system has trouble running stellarium or you want a lightweight astronomy program, check out nightsky: http://nightsky.sourceforge.net/ For a very simple, lightweight GTK+ 2 image viewer, there's NeonView: http://www.tuxare...

Re: lxdm change theme
You can change the theme of Openbox. Since you mentioned Arch, here's some information from their wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Openbox#Themes_and_appearance You can use openbox-themes for already created themes or design your own using obtheme (http://xyne.archlinux.ca/projects/obtheme...

Re: startup items on a .sh document
I have a startup script I run, but I run it from within ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh instead of the desktop file.

Re: Installing on drives <4GB
Found out the hard way on Debian, if you install Alsa without installing udev first, Alsa may not properly install. There's some code in the Alsa installation that looks to see if you have udev installed and if not, doesn't set up certain things for audio card devices. If you're going to run Alsa us...

Re: USB Speakers
What problem are you having with connecting? I've read some machines such as certain laptops sometimes can't run USB devices that need a lot of power. If there are multiple USB devices drawing power, one may need to cut down on the number of devices running. One can also get USB hubs with external p...

Re: Lxde default search tool
They're not defaults for LXDE, but grep, ls with find, mlocate and searchmonkey also provide ways to search for filenames or strings within files.

Re: Installing on drives <4GB
Am curious, what issues are you seeing when you try to install LXDE? I installed using the Debian network install CD (netinst) and didn't run into any major problems with the basics. I do have more drive space than you though. You can also look at using the Antix core CD. I don't have a working Inte...
