Re: screen resolution problem

as it turns out, we are still not able to access the modes we wanted to use. the command to change the mode returns an error that this mode is unavailable, even though it shows up in the log file. so, this is a limitation perhaps of this new desktop sw, which we are willing to live with for the mome...

Re: indic font rendering

So, this is something I posting without having done the proper research. this is a part of the transition from winOS to linOS. linOS psychology is completely different. win-user can tend to be dependent and shy, afraid to tinker and not much of a self-starter, the average user. I am over-generalizin...

Re: How to configure lxlauncher

@maces

thanks for your post.
took some time for me to get back to this subject.

I assumed xlauncher was the "apps menu" in the lower left corner of the desktop. that is what I actually want to edit, configure.

Re: screen resolution problem

:) Yes, thanks, I was not really upset, or even really exasperated, just really puzzled. So, I opened that file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) and found one res that may be useful. as always, thanks for your patience and (repeated) hints. have to log out to restart xserver to see if it will work. brb glogo

indic font rendering

Hi again, does anyone per chance know, or have any experience in getting indic fonts to render, say, in ice weasel or FF or whatever browser? I want to read newpapers in Oriya. Have downloaded the oriya fonts and tried all kinds of things with the browser and character encodings settings, to no effe...

Re: screen resolution problem

Hello we're back. this is the thing. Somehow, it should be possible to dictate to the system which resolutions are loadable. Still it has not been possible to do this. Can anyone please lift the lid on this mystery? xorg.conf editing is totally useless. recently installed an application for which I ...

Re: How to configure lxlauncher

@maces or any friend, I would also like to edit my launcher menu, but there is nothing in the location specified ((/usr/share/lxlauncher) no such file or folder...) and in the /usr/share folder are found only, lxappearance lxde lxpanel lxsession lxterminal where do you suppose that launcher could be...

Re: screen resolution problem

Yes, thanks, happily it finally worked. as an interesting side note. xorg.conf manipulation does nothing. I edited that file to include only the resolutions I wanted to see in the list. nothing doing. and strangely, when I also re-edited the other file (/etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart) and took ou...

Re: screen resolution problem -- SOLVED

It's fixed. the correct code xrandr -s 1024x768 this line is appended in the file /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart that is all that was needed, but what a process to get there. the answer was found in a recent post here about setting the default resolution. a little hard to find, as the words "...

Re: screen resolution problem

Hello, thanks for your help. here is the updated file. cat /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart @lxde-settings @xscreensaver -no-splash @lxpanel --profile LXDE @pcmanfm -d xrandr --output VGA --mode 1024x768 but it still does not work. logout and login restarts the xserver, right? so, I know it's silly...
