Got the solution.
The problem was that in /home/myuser/.cache the folder 'menus' was owned by root. I changed that to my username and everything worked fine.

I just noticed that when I start pcmanfm as root it finds applications. So it seems to be a permission problem. I don't understand why though as all files in /etc/xdg/menus are at least readable for everyone.

[solved] openbox pcmanfm arch -> no applications
Hi there. I installed pcmanfm to replace thunar. But in the applications tab/bookmark (menu://applications/) there are no applications. I do have gnome-menus, gnome-menus2 and lxmenu-data. In /etc/xdg/menus I can see various files like lxde-applications.menu, xfce-applications.menu, applications.men...
