Re: setting window frame width
Change the "border.Width" number in the ".themerc" for the window theme you are using. To find what theme you are using, open ~/.config/rc.xml and look in the "theme" section, which should be near the top. Your theme name should be between the tags <name></name>. Theme ...

Re: Which version of LXDE do I have?
Have you reloaded synaptic, or done sudo apt-get update in a terminal? If you have dpkg installed, then you can run dpkg -s appname in a terminal to get loads of information about "appname", including what the latest version is and what is installed on your machine. Ubuntu (Lubuntu) has a ...

Do you have synaptic installed? It will tell you your "installed version" and the "latest version." Just check "lxde" or "lxde core".

Re: Which version of LXDE do I have?
I have read that Lubuntu is changing to LXQT, which is a different beast, and, therefore, your comparison work will be for naught. Re: panel applets wont stay open
If it is just the tray applets acting up, you could install an alternate tray, for example, http://stalonetray.sourceforge.net/ is a good one that works well with openbox. For a picture and more information, see http://lxlinux.com/dock.html.

Re: how to get a desktop "luncher" icon that runs a specified program in lxterminal??
In the default lxde desktop, pcmanfm is in charge of the desktop. I presume you have not altered this, because if you did, then putting a desktop file in ~/Desktop does nothing. See the discussion in Section 2 of my first reference. The general nature of .desktop files in discussed in Section 6 of l...

Re: Tree View: dotted lines? show files too? alternate tree root?
Not sure what you want, but pcmanfm has a "Tree View". You can choose between "Places" and "Directory Tree" in left column menu. "Tree View" starts from either "/ " or "~". Just leave the tree view open with the desired working folder open ...
