Re: No menu start image and desktop icons not displayed prop
maybe opensuse uses not same paths/configs as default lxde, so: 1. use lxde either compiled from source either from open suse repository, don't mix them. maybe one component config file want to see in /var/foo/config.cfg, but other component stores config in /var/var/var/foo/config.cfg 2. if it's bu...

Re: A few questions...
How do I adjust the clock so it shows the time in 12 hour format without the seconds? right click on clock->clock settings->in first input enter "%I:%M", i don't know how that strings looks in fedora, but personally I use "%Y.%m.%d\n%H:%M" so in your case it should be "%Y.%...

Re: Building/Running LXDM
Okay, so are you saying that I shouldn't try to run LXDM from the command line, but only automatically at start-up? you can't launch from terminal(in runlevel 3), if you want to launch manually then run from "tty/console/run level 2"(i don't know how to name that. in short: press crtl+alt...

Re: Building/Running LXDM
1. remove(or atleast prevent start) any existing display manager(gdm, kdm, slim, etc.)
2.0 in daemon array add "lxdm": in archlinux it's file /etc/rc.conf line "DAEMONS="
2.1 you can set same with inittab, but to add daemon it's definetly easier.
3. reboot
