I just can't shake my Windoze paranoia and still clear all my personal data from firefox on close.
You can configure firefox to do so. Edit->Preferences->Privacy->Use custom settings for history->Clear history when firefox closes

Re: xscreensaver, 'new login' and DPI set to 96x96

I would not handle this with gdm, because it is not an specific thing for gdm to switch DPI, it is more an X point.
You could add

Code: Select all

Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
to /etc/X11/xorg.conf int the Monitor Section.
That should solve your problem.

Re: screen res + keyboard layout

Hmm, xorg.conf is replaced/going to be replaced by HAL in some distros.
I would start using HAL.

Re: live-CD no video no audio

Flash? What about testing a real sound/video file with a player? Flash is ever causing problems with GNU/Linux. Flash 10 works beautifully on my Debian Squeeze but that's not the point. What I want to know is, how do I make the video and audio work on the live CD which I downloaded from this site? ...

Re: LXDE success story

I have a Toshiba laptop that was made c.2000, one of the Portege series. It's great because it is about the size / weight of a netbook, although the obvious downside is its limited computing power. For a few reasons I'm not able to install many distros on it, but for whatever reason the *buntu alte...

Re: network manager

nano /etc/conf.d/net :D Works best and fastest and I get the results I expect. Every manager seems to have some differences with my box and is preventing me from connecting.
