I just set up LXDE on Debian 5.0 (Lenny) but I am having a few issues: 1) I don't want LXDE to start up automatically. I like to issue the startx command. what do you mean does your machine just startup and go to lxde ? 2) I want to be able to shutdown, and restart, LXDE without having to rm /tmp/....

Your using Fedora arent you ? I noticed this happening when I had fedora on another HD. I could never get it to correct. Strange thing is on my debian HD it is perfectly fine.

What distro are you using ? some distros have system tools installed with a basic install so you may want to look for one of them. Or if you are using cups you can dial up the cups page via your browser and set it up that way. There are alot of ways to accomplish this so please be more specific.

so is this Ubuntu you are using ? When you say you tried apt-get synaptic and it failed, how exactly did it fail ?

If i was gonna do this I would use the desktop menu's, for instance make sure in Preferences --> Desktop --> General make sure Show menus provided by WM when desktop is clicked is checked. Then in /home/user/.config/openbox either create your custom menu with xml or use obmenu to create a menu to yo...

I use debian with lxde and it works just fine for me. I would use the lenny branch though right now. Thats what I use, Lenny is frozen so the only updates are mostly just things getting fixed before release. I would like to put together a repo though for debian that will keep my lxde more up2date so...
