PowerPC project coming up.

Post by aznightrider »

I have a project coming up (before April) that I will be starting soon. I will be upgrading my mother-in-law's Apple G5 Powerbook from Lubuntu 12.04 to Lubuntu 14.04. When I installed 12.04 on it before it was pretty straight forward. If anyone has done this I have a few questions to ask. Are there any known bugs? I haven't found many articles about this as PowerPC is not as popular or current as Intel of AMD chips. Any input will help a lot. Thanks.

Hey aznightrider. Welcome to the LXDE forum. I am sure that there might be one or two folks out there that can help you. However, as you may or may not know Lubuntu 12.04 is no longer supported. It never was a long term support version like Ubuntu 12.04. Since there are only two active Lubuntu versions that are still active (14.04 and 14.10) upgrading may be difficult. I am not even sure if it can be done. A fresh install is probably the easiest way after you back-up all of your mother-in-law's data. It would not be good to lose any of that considering the relationship. Once again welcome aboard.

I found these two sites after a little research. You probably already have them but....
