lxde packages vs lubuntu packages
lxde packages vs lubuntu packages
what is the difference between lxde and lubuntu on a ubuntu system?
Re: lxde packages vs lubuntu packages
there is a difference.
the lubuntu desktop is lxde set up in a special ubuntu-ish way.
this includes the ubuntu font, some nice default theme etc.
i think there's also a few differences under the hood.
question best asked on ubuntuforums.

Re: lxde packages vs lubuntu packages
on a plain ole ubuntu system (16.04.2 LTS), which should i install, lxde or lubuntu, to be run under xtightvnc, leaving the original unity in place when not under xtightvnc (e.g. only specified in ~/.vnc/xstartup).
one issue i ran across when i installed lxde and lxde-core is that there are only 2 packaged files, each, not enough to run a desktop environment:
lxde:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Feb 27 2016 /usr/share/doc/lxde/changelog.gz -> ../lxde-core/changelog.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1013 Nov 27 2013 /usr/share/doc/lxde/copyright
lxde-core:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1961 Feb 27 2016 /usr/share/doc/lxde-core/changelog.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1013 Nov 27 2013 /usr/share/doc/lxde-core/copyright
who built these packages? canonical?

Re: lxde packages vs lubuntu packages
these are most likely meta-packages, i.e. their only purpose is to pull in dependencies and ... well, create the lxde meta-package.Skaperen wrote:when i installed lxde and lxde-core is that there are only 2 packaged files, each, not enough to run a desktop environment:
i cannot answer your question with any authority, but my guess would be that the lxde package would interfer less with an existing unity desktop.
just be careful when uninstalling, because they partly share the same packages.
no false flattery please.leredop wrote:Its a very interesting topic, hope somebody on this great forum will help us
