Can't drag window to external monitor?

Post by raybaq »

Hi,

I just installed LXLE 18043 with LXDE on an old Aspire One netbook, to use for presentations on TVs connected via HDMI. I have set the external monitor to be positioned to the right of the lapexternal top LCD. But it seems I can't drag a window from the laptop LCD to the external monitor. Everytime I try, the cursor and an image of the dragged window does appear on the external monitor, but when I release the trackpad button, the window snaps back to the laptop LCD.

This desktop environment is new to me so I would appreciate a little help.

TIA,

Ray

Connect the monitor cable to the input port on the rear of the monitor. If the port on the laptop does not match the one on the monitor, connect an adapter to the end of the cable that attaches to the laptop. You can purchase adapters that convert VGA to DVI, DVI to VGA, HDMI to DVI and DVI to HDMI.

Today more and more states ban payday loans as such – and those where cash advances have legal status have reasonable regulations like no rollovers, or capped APRs, etc. You can read the description of what state legislature is for payday loans in different states here.

Okay, I must be technologically challenged, because I tried opolanqu's fix and it doesn't work... Did I forget something important?

Guys, I don't believe that drag and drop has ever been supported in LXDE. There are ways to get around it though to accomplish the OP's goal of giving presentations on a TV, such as have the external monitor mirror the laptop monitor. opolanqu probably misunderstood the question because the response does not solve the problem.

Okay, good to know! I did find the message strange after trying to apply it several times over, but it didn't occur to me that it was just inaccurate...

I have to disagree with RexBouwense there; it should be possible to drag windows around on the screen. It is one of the most basic features of every stacking window manager.
And regardless of the desktop environment, it should be possible to set the two screens up side-by-side so that they behave like a single, larger screen.

And this problem happens only when dragging from one monitor to the other? not when dragging on one monitor only?

Maybe you need to unmaximise the window first, before dragging it.

Also look at the <placement> policy in your openbox' rc.xml.

If you show us the output of

Code: Select all

xrandr
we can at least see if the screens are configured correctly.
