Is LXDE "Gnome dependent?"

I love the ease and elegance of LXDE and want to make it my only desktop environment. But in all the minimal installs of Debian and it's derivatives include Gnome stuff. So my question is:

Can I safely uninstall Gnome, or does LXDE depend on Gnome or some of it's components? Must I keep what I'm not using?

Thanks,
Robin
(Debian "Lenny" with LXDE on old, low resource 256-RAM machine)

There should not be any dependency beyond GTK and its dependencies, with the exception of lxterminal, which uses VTE.
If you were using GDM as a session manager, it might pull some things in. Many people, including myself, are using Slim with LXDE.
