What is wrong with getting the source code and compile it?

Look at the FreeBSD ports (http://www.freshports.org/x11/lxde-meta/), it was added on 31 of March.

What is wrong with building your car from a kit? Or your computer from a pile of chips and circuit boards? Or analyzing natioal survey data with a hand held calculator. I mean really, why does everyone have to compile this program for their operating system? Quite frankly I have better things to do with my time. Some people may have the time and I appreciate it, but I am a busy analyst/systems admin.

So, if this interface to be more usefull, can't it be available for more than a couple flavors of Linux?

I use Gentoo, I am used to let my computer compile things, so maybe I am not the person to discuss about this point. xD
