I messed up with the translations...

Post by phonky »

I have been too stupid to follow the instructions properly...

To my defense, I *only* went through
-> Translate *.po files with Poedit <-

without going through
-> How to translate LXDE components <-

So after not finding POT files in most of the directories, I thought I
would be incredibly ingenious. I started poedit, opened a .DE file
and just saved it under .it_IT extension...

When I first opened such a file with vi I realized I must have done something stupid...
Now it's too late, I actually translated all files to Italian, but I think this is not usable like this...

Is there a way to simply fix this without having to re-type every file?
Thanks a lot - and sorry

Thanks brother,
Yes, I found that section.

But as far as I understand, these tools just allow me to
align the original strings with the latest version.

However, my concern is about some "meta-information" which
seems to be in the .po files. There are entries still saying German there...

I am pretty sure I could just check in my files and they would work,
but the meta-info could be wrong, and I do not know what consequence that would
have:

# gpicview German translation
# Martin Siggel <martinsiggel at web.de>, 2007.
#
msgid ""
msgstr ""
"Project-Id-Version: gpicview 0.1.3\n"
"Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: \n"
"POT-Creation-Date: 2009-01-06 12:16+0100\n"
"PO-Revision-Date: 2009-01-05 20:49+0100\n"
"Last-Translator: Fabio Barone <phonky@gmx.net>\n"
"Language-Team: German <martinsiggel at web.de>\n"
"MIME-Version: 1.0\n"
"Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8\n"
"Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n"

I also do not know how this would affect the entries like "Language-Team"

Alright brother,

thank you a lot.

I edited all of the files with an editor and they should be fine.

I was testing now and strange things happen.
1.) Why are dialog buttons still showing up in English (OK/Cancel),
whereas the other strings (e.g. in the logout dialog) display my translations?
2.) In lxrandr for example, Some strings get translated and displayed
(e.g. resolution) while others do not (refresh rate). I guess this
is a version problem? I guess I have to download the latest lxrandr src
from svn and compile it here to be able to test my strings?

Thank you again
