Change background color of active application in lxpanel

I have the following icons in my lxpanel:

The problem is that I cannot tell which application is active, how can I change the background color of active application please?

I assume you checked lxpanel's settings already.
Beyond that, the current GTK2 theme is responsible for this.
It might be possible to change the highlighting to your satisfaction.
Either by just changing themes until you find one that suits you, or... searching yielded this: https://www.linux.org/threads/installin ... mes.11811/
