I personally like the actually LXDE Logo, so I don't think it should be changed, but thats just my opinion. From your work I think the first is the best.

Hi there!

I've just had an idea of a new LXDE logo and I thought: “Why not show this idea to the LXDE people and see what they say?“
So here is my idea:

Interesting ideas, but I think rebranding is probably a mistake. That's not to say that I think the LXDE logo doesn't have some fundamental problems, the largest one being is that the bird looks nothing like an "X", but more resembles an "A". So when I look at the logo I don't read "LXDE" I read "LADE". I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not alone in this.

A better, more subtle change, would be to keep the bird, but have it separate from the letterforms.
