Cannot add newly installed applications to lxpanel launcher

Post by lxrider »

I am trying to customize the new lxpanel with manjaro linux. I was installing new packages into the OS and adding some to the applicatin launcher in the lxpanel. It was going well for the first few. Then at one point, the new applications are no longer added to the 'Installed Applications' in the 'Application Launch Bar' window. Sine they are not there, I cannot add them to the launcher. I have rebooted a few times since but there is no changes.

What can I do so all the applications show up in the 'Installed Applications'?

Thank you.

Hi lxrider. Just to make sure, take a look at the screenshot below and let me know if this is what you are talking about. If "Yes", then it's a problem with the .desktop files for the apps that won't show up. (I just went through this same problem with Inkscape the other day.)

Confirm this is the problem, then I can help you from there.

[SOLVED]Cannot add new installed applications to panel launc

Thank you for getting back. You are correct.
I have got it fixed now. I stumbled up the .desktop file with an extra ';' .
So I changed
Categries=Utility;
to
Categries=Utility
and all the missing apps and icons showed up on the list.

That cannot be "extra ';'" because Categories field is a list and its value should end exactly with ';'. I think something else was wrong in your case, like menu layout.
