Weather applet icons location?

Post by hhhorb »

Hi, first post here. I use lxpanel and AnyColorYouLike icons, and I'd like to use those icons for the weather applet. I was hoping I could rename the default icons and symlink the ACYL ones from that location, but I can't find the default icons. I figured it would be the gnome or Adwaita status icons, but that's not it.

Any info would be appreciated. Cheers!

erm, sorry, what distro?

lxpanel does not install any weather icons, so they must be somewhere under /usr/share/icons or /usr/share/pixmaps.
the very tricky part will be to find out which icons (icon names) lxpanel uses.

meanwhile you could check if ACYL even has suitable weather icons?

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned I run Debian jessie with lxpanel 0.8.0 from experimental.

Yes, AnyColorYouLike has weather icons.

The stock icons (usually weather-clear.png, for example, or stock-weather-clear.png under an icon theme's status folder) are not being called from any icons I have in /usr/share/icons as far as I can tell, nor any image in /usr/share/pixmaps.

I've submitted an issue at the plugin author's GitHub page, hopefully he will shed some light and I can post back the results here.

Cheers.

psipika kindly responded...
The images displayed by the plugin are those retrieved directly from yahoo. In other words, the plugin does not use 'stock' images on the host computer. The reason for doing that is complete transparency when it comes to the current conditions - the plugin doesn't have to correlate an image to a status. That's done by yahoo and available in the XML being parsed by the plugin.

Having said that, I can see where the app should be responsible for its images -- your specific use case -- changing themes.

I haven't had time to work on it in a while, but will keep this issue open as more of an enhancement.
Do let me know if you have suggestions or comments regarding this (or other) functionality. I'm always eager to learn.
Best!

that's a kind response.
i'm happy for you and all lxpanel weather applet users.
meanwhile, you could try using an independent weather notification systray app.
maybe this one:

I have found that the Firefox plugin, forecastfox (fix version) 2.2.6, supplies all of my needs. It is quite configurable as well.

Sparky Linux has a nice pipe-menu which can be added to the Openbox root-menu for weather: http://lxlinux.com/openbox.html#2 .
Also, wmforcast is a nice dock applet that can be added to the openbox dock: http://lxlinux.com/Docker/wm-weather.png (See http://lxlinux.com/dock.html ).
