Hello!
It would be desirable in the new version PCManFM Disable Auto Arrange
As it was in old Microsoft Windows OS.
Any file manager of linux doesn't support it

Re: Disable Auto Arrange in PCManFM
Welcome to the lxde forum. What exactly do you want to do with your desktop? Your problem/question is a little vague so if you would provide some additional information perhaps someone could assist you.

Re: Disable Auto Arrange in PCManFM
i don't think that this is possible inside a file manager window.
it is possible on the desktop itself.

In explorer Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 & XP it was possible as in alternative explorer ++ there is such opportunity

Re: Disable Auto Arrange in PCManFM
I think that drooly is correct. I have not been able to find a way to turn off the auto arrange within PCManFM but I am still looking. You have to remember that Linux is not Microsoft Windows and LXDE, specificly PCManFM, is a very light file manager. That is not to say that it is not configurable because it is. People use it because they want something lean and fast not because they want a great deal of eye candy. You probably have used Google and Googlubuntu and have gotten the same URLs that I have. Perhaps there is someone out there that is aware of a way to do what you want to do.

Re: Disable Auto Arrange in PCManFM
You need to write a shell script that does the arrangement that you desire, then activate it by using View>Filter in pcmanfm heading.
Re: Disable Auto Arrange in PCManFM
@seppalta, i think op wants to graphically arrange icons like on a desktop - not filter them.
LINUX IS NOT WINDOWS
what do you want us to say to that?Gnome wrote:In explorer Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 & XP it was possible as in alternative explorer ++ there is such opportunity

Re: Disable Auto Arrange in PCManFM
yes, I want itdrooly wrote:@seppalta, i think op wants to graphically arrange icons like on a desktop - not filter them.
very convenient function, I got used to it
Windows Vista, 7, 8, doesn't support it any more
unfortunately I didn't find any file manager with this function in linux
it would be healthy if in PCManFM it would be possible to switch off automatic arrange
Re: Disable Auto Arrange in PCManFM
there's about a million features that somebody would like to see implemented somewhere.
implementing them would mean:
a) a lot of work. who's gonna do it?
b) a lot of payload on your system. is your hardware up to it? it certainly would NOT be a Lightweight X Desktop Environment anymore.
maybe you should just change your habits instead.
