LXsession-logout and LightDM: no "switch user" option

Post by nobange »

Hello, I installed Lightdm instead of LXDM, because of user switching capability lacking in LXDM. But there's no "Switch user" button when I run lxsession-logout. This button appears only if gdm is in use. How can I force LXsession to show this button? As a temporary workaround to switch between users I run xscreensaver-lock and then "New login", but it isn't right way to do this. LXsession should recognize display manager capable to switch users and show the button if it's available.

Almost a year and no single answer from developers. Great. No wonder, that in Opensuse 12.2 this is still unresolved. Somehow LXSession doesn't recognize LightDM's ability to switch users, which is working well on Ubuntu. Please provide at least a workaround.

I have lightdm installed in 2 computers. "Switch user" always shows. Not sure what the problem is. What is your underlieing operating system?

Mine are installed on Mint Debian (LMDE). One is lightdm1.2.1-Oubuntu1.1 and it offers 7 choices among which is "switchuser". The other one is lightdm1.2.2-3 and it offers 6 choices (no switch user) among which is "logout", which is equivalent to switchuser. So ....?

Logout is equivalent to Switch user? That's not true, I'm afraid...

Mint/Debian/Ubuntu are NOT the same as Opensuse. I know it works there. Here it just doesn't work and i'm looking for information why.

I have a similar problem with my Archlinux box
recently Archlinux has moved to systemd/logind and consolekit has been removed;
now the poweroff/reboot buttons have disappeared :shock:

I suppose the reason is lxsession-logout do not support systemd-logind.service properly;
I hope this issue will be fixed soon
