Finnish Weather - Conky - Ilmatieteen Laitoksen Sääennuste

Post by drooly »

a conky script (conkyrc + bash script) utilizing a finnish weather site:
ilmatieteenlaitos.fi - Finnish weather only.

Suomenkielinen keskustelu linux.fi-foorumilla.

Get the newest version from github: https://github.com/ohnonot/conky-itl-weather
or from Here.

Dependencies:
- xmllint (comes with libxml2 or libxml2-utils)
- conky (i have version 1.9.0)
- pkill (provided by procps-ng)
- ping (provided by iputils)
- the "Droid Sans" font, available all over the web and through most
ditributions' package management. i list this as a dependency because the
conky layout depends on the width + height of fonts. of course you can use
other fonts.
apart from that, sed, wget, join, and maybe a few other very basic utilities
that are most probably already present on your system.

Tested on
Lubuntu, archlinux (simple openbox) and debian jessie lxde.

Features:
I am trying as far as possible to mirror the website's way of displaying
information. The best way to understand is to take a look at how the page looks
in your browser. More info in README.

Uff da, drooly. Did you mean to post this in the cafe? Everyone is looking for a good weather plug in. I best one that I could find was ForecastFox. It is quite configurable for my purposes but everyone has something else that they want to do with it or some additional information that they want at their fingertips. Another great post as always.

Another great post as always.
why thank you.
i could not find a better place on this forum (there is no section for "tips and tricks" or "community contributions"?) and it seems wrong to post it in "General Help".
Its rather marginal anyway, since it provides weather only for finland, and if someone is really looking for finnish weather, i trust the search function will provide.

ps: i always feel a little jealous when i read "wherever we park the RV".
it's been a while since my traveling days... also we're having a legendarily cold and rainy summer up here :-(

It is always great when someone is interested enough to put a little information out to others especially in such a small forum. Thank you. There are so few of us who are regular readers and contributors to this forum. Of course we have the new people who register for a single question or problem but there are probably only 6 to 12 that are interested enough to sign on a couple of times a week. The administrators and the other mods seldom visit any more. I have used about six Operating Systems with LXDE and while some are better than others, I liked them all. There are others who have used more and obviously have much more knowledge of the desktop environment than I ever will.
Travelling in an RV has been a new life style and we are slowing down a little.

yeah it's very quiet here.
i don't really understand because from other forums i have the feeling that many people are using lxde; but maybe the distro's forum is a more natural choice.

safe travels!

ps: i have updated the script a couple of times.
