Noob: How to compile and prepare LXDE for Alpine Linux

Post by Saijin_Naib »

Hi,

I'm a longtime fan/user of LXDE from Lubuntu, LXLE, and Raspbian for years.

I'm using Alpine Linux these days and I'm finding the lack of LXDE to be a bit of a sticking point for a lightweight WM. We have LXQT, but most of the apps I use are GTK-based so pulling in a bunch of KDE dependencies doesn't sit right with me.

I have a few questions:
1) Is the LXDE GitHub the correct repository for all the current LXDE stack/components?
2) Does the LXDE GitHub contain the patches that Arch Linux has for GTK3/Wayland compatible LXDE?
3) What is the proper order to compile LXDE from source (in regards to all of its subcomponents)?
4) Who normally maintains LXDE for the various Distros?

Thanks!

https://sourceforge.net/projects/lxde/

I believe the official repository for LXDE, is at Sourceforge.

I'm not sure. The sourceforge pages look outdated, but e.g. ArchLinux LXDE packages get sources from there.
The github pages show much more activity.
2) Does the LXDE GitHub contain the patches that Arch Linux has for GTK3/Wayland compatible LXDE?
I don't know about these. Also see my answer to 1).
3) What is the proper order to compile LXDE from source (in regards to all of its subcomponents)?
Whatever the README and/or INSTALL files of the repo in question recommend?
4) Who normally maintains LXDE for the various Distros?
Various distro maintainers.
