auto-mount usb devices

Post by viniosity »

I'm running LXDE on Debian Sid.. for a while I was running XFCE and all was fine. I installed LXDE and it was better so I removed XFCE. Some component of importance must have been removed though because now LXDE won't auto-mount usb devices when I plug them in. Can somebody give me a hint as to what I might be missing? I've checked and autofs, hal, and dbus are all installed and running.

Ok, turns out the devices do automount and they show up on the sidebar in the file manager but they do not show up on the desktop.. Not sure why that is.. I could have sworn they used to..

is there a way to make the mounted devices (be it a cdrom, an ipod or a usb device) show up in the desktop automatically ? I tried checking and unchecking the "Let pcmanfm manage the desktop" but up to no avail... i only get that irritating "my documents" icon :(

the devices show up in thunar but not on the desktop.

I don't know if there is a way show usb devices etc. on the desktop, but to automount and show them in pcmanfm I use "ivman" on my gentoo-box and I'm pretty happy with it.

Perhaps you may want to consider installing "hal" ('dbus' should be pulled in as dependency, if not install it also) and "pmount" (to allow non-root users to mount), then rebooting.
