How to repair a damaged LXDE desktop

Postby fred44nl » Fri Nov 23, 2018 5:26 pm

I have Debian 9.6 with LXDE running on my machine.
unfortunately I made a mistake and removed several packages.
the packages I require are still running, but several programs look flat, see image
I looked at several sites about LXDE and re-installed the essentials, but no solution so far.
my system is completely updated and I have no broken dependencies.
hopefully, I can get it back together, without reinstalling everything.

looks like you're missing some themes, and maybe theme engines (although i think only gtk2 uses engines, not gtk3).
so, install some themes, and choose them with lxappearance.

I have been installing a number of packages that seemed to be missing.
this alone did not solve the problem.
finally, I logged in as a different user and renamed my home-folder to home-folder.old
created a new home-folder and rebooted and logged into my new home-folder.
this worked so far.
presently I am recovering some config-files, so I don't have to setup everything again.
