Desktop smaller then monitor

Post by trovador »

Hi, at first sorry for my english, so I've just installed lxde, let me call "lite version", for Ubuntu Gnome 8.10 I've an old notebook, and everything is ok, but I've a problem with the desktop, it is smaller than the monitor, I've a monitor of 14 inches and the desktop is only 11 inches.
I can't modify the resolution of the monitor because there isn't the grafic menu.
If the matter is clear do you have any idea to solve it ?
If you need i'll give you some more details.
Thank you.

Hi

Press ALT+F2 and a Run-Dialog will appear. Type in "lxrandr" and a configuration tool tool will appear. Be sure to have lxrandr installed! If not open a terminal and install lxrandr by

Code: Select all

apt-get install lxrandr

If this doesn't work please type in the terminal

Code: Select all

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep Modes
and post the result here.

I once tried the "alternate" installation of Ubuntu 8.04 using GNOME and had a video problem, the resolution was limited to 800x600 and could not be changed. Yet when I used the main LiveCD of the same distro to run from the CD drive, the resolution was 1024x768 and could be changed... It was an Ubuntu problem.

Other option for you would be to enable LCD Strech in the Laptop. Many old Laptops have this option.
