On Archlinux you have an SVN PKGBUILD for nearly all LXDE applications. The PKGBUILDs can be installed like normal applications and are handled like them. Newer than SVN isn't really possible ;)

I think Debian has the most outdated LXDE packages of all LXDE distros out there. Not sure if there are backports, but you can compile from source without grabbing the SVN versions.

I guess Fedora and Arch will have the most recent packages. While Arch has ships SVN versions, Fedora uses the latest stable version of a package. Not sure about the other Distros. <Shameless Advertising>Fedora 12 will be released on Tuesday and will have an LXDE Spin, a installable LXDE Live-CD.</Shameless Advertising>

PCLXDE (PCLinuxOS-LXDE) works beautifully on my older computers. :D The new one, too.

I knew that you would say that :)

The stable/binary package versions of Fedora and Archlinux are more or less equal, but I don't think they are more recent than the svn packages. The svn packages are not binary files, they are only meta information to easily compile and install the application like a normal package (compiling at time/before of installation). If you build them often/recent, they should be very up to date. SCNR

Beside that I'd like to test your LXDE spin, again ;)

Debian only has older packages if you run stable, packages in Sid are usually close to svn versions. Never understood why anyone would want to run Debian stable on anything other than a server.

In Andrew Lee's LXDE folder there are debs of LXDE packages, including lxtask_0.1-1_i386.deb - I don't understand the dash, but if that means v 1.1, then it's the same version as at sourceforge.

I installed that that deb, and I use the package. It's great for basic usage (easier than htop, and much lighter in resource usage than gnome-system-monitor), but it needs work to get RAM displaying clearly, and possibly to add network traffic. Optional graph would be nice but I guess that might increase the resource use.

OK, Fedora's LXDE Spin is now available at http://spins.fedoraproject.org/lxde/
Get it while it's hot and please don't forget to give me your feedback! ;)

Have fun,
