How To Use GParted - Easy and Simple Guide

Hi Everyone,

I'm sure there are many Guides/Howtos/Tutorials about GParted but I'm creating this one for two main reasons:

1- LXDE Community must have as much Guides/Howtos as possible. One Stop Place that does have it all
2- I do write many guides and instead of repeating the same over and over again, I could just refer to this guide

As usual, an image could speak 1000 words, thus, I'm going to explain with images and some paragraphs.

Lubutnu 11.10 Live-CD is going to be used in this Guide/Howto.
A 4GB USB Drive is going to be used in this Guide/Howto. Note that SAME can be applied to any Disk (Internal HDD, USB or External HDD).

Steps:

1- Turn ON your machine and insert Lubutnu 11.10 Live-CD

2- Please, make sure your machine boots first from the CD-Drive. You may need to enter BIOS to double check that. Usually, each computer with CD-Drive does boot first from CD by default.

3- Choose your Language then select "Try Lubuntu without installation". Please, note that in some cases, you may be dropped to CLI. As a workaround for this case, please see this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= ... stcount=35

4- While on the Live Desktop, please start GParted:




5-Please, make sure to select the correct Drive from GParted Drive List on the Top Right Screen. In this example, it will be /dev/sdc




6- This is how the Drive may look like:




7- Now, it depends on your needs. Why on the first place you need GParted? for what purpose? hope I can cover all the possible cases and needs on this Guide


Scenarios:

A- Wipe the Disk

The best, shortest and easiest way in my humble opinion, is to create New Partition Table and that will wipe the Disk in one click. You don't have to delete each partition.






If you want to use the old classic way OR you want to delete ONLY some partitions, then:




B- Create Partition(s)












C- Resize/Move Partition(s)
