Desktop shortcuts work superbly, its quite interesting to move on desktop using shortcut keys.

Okay; one thing I always got tripped up on was the fact Linux is case sensitive. I still slip up on that from time to time with file and folder names. Pretty well all commands in Linux are lower case for that reason. You didn't let an errant upper case letter slip in there did you? I've done that often enough.

What's the code of of your shell and/or desktop icon file? Maybe I, or someone here more knowledgeable than myself, could spot something that's amiss.

Just stick with it, though. Linux is worth it it. Just a learning curve thing and soon enough things like this will be old hat.
