Compton

I have recently installed LXLE (http://lxlinux.com/lxle.html), which is working very nicely. It includes Compton, which is a windows composite manager, which is apparently an application that supplements Openbox. My problem is that I cannot figure out exactly what Compton does, other than make lxterminal transparent, which is kind of a nice feature. I have tried a variety of configurations, but nothing seems to change. Can someone give me a tutorial on the virtues of Compton?

My man. I think you got it. Apparently it does shadows as well. Not sure why anyone would need this other than to provide some more eye candy. In some of the reading that I have done, it is being tauted as a light Compiz. Not sure if that is correct. I am continuing to research.
