Does LXDE or Virtualbox use buffers and cache in RAM ?

Post by forum2233 »

I'm using a Live CD with LXDE just to run Virtualbox which runs a Windows 7 system.
The reason I chose LXDE is specifically to use as little RAM as possible, so I could dedicate as much as possible to the VM.
From looking at free -m, there's still about 800 Mb RAM in buffers and cached. My question is, does LXDE running in the background,
and/or VirtualBox need these parts of memory? If I minimize these by allocating more memory to the VM, would that effect VM I/O performance?
I'm thinking virtualbox might route I/O through these? or not?
Thanks a lot
