Sluggish Bootup

Post by Felin »

Hi,
Just installed L. 16.04.3 LTS on a Lenovo T 400, upgraded with a SSD Samsung 850 Pro. To my disappointment 2.5 minutes for booting up. Even Win 7 was much faster. What is the reason and what can I do to solve that problem? I installed L., assuming it would be faster. By the way: Is L. SSD ready, like the big distros, e. g. Ubuntu?
Thanks for your answers!

yes.

my guess is that the bootup hangs at some point.
it should be MUCH faster than windows.

problem is, how to get at the boot messages because they're usually hidden by a splash screen.

try this:

hold Shift right after bios (very early boot) - this should bring you to the grub menu. boot the default entry, but first edit it and remove any occurences of "quiet" and/or "splash" - now you should be seeing loads of boot messages!

or this:

after succesful boot, open a terminal and enter

Code: Select all

dmesg
journalctl -b
