gpart

Post by WizardintheWoods »

Trying to install on an older HP notebook.
Live run worked fantastic... It's beautiful...

Okay... so the existing Partition table is corrupted.
I go through the menus and find gparted (Wonderful)
I try to fix partition table... and gparted complains that "gpart" does not exist.
gpart is required to "Guess" what formats exist in what partitions and attempt to rewrite them.

What's more... I can't seem to find this little bit of perfection by doing sudo apt-get.

So I'm stuck with a broken laptop.
Any Ideas?

Welcome to the LXDE forums. I am not sure what you are asking. The installer will over-write the existing partitions and install your OS as well as swap. Unless you are doing something other than a simple install you virtually have to do nothing other than answer a few questions.

what seppalta said.

on a broader note, it sounds like you brought your consumer mentality over from $PROPRIETARY_OS, and are now deeply dissatisfied with the way GNU/Linux works.
however, it doesn't work that way.
surely you can see that millions of users, ever growing in numbers, can't be that wrong?
