Hi -
Linux noob here. I have the OSGeoLive 12.0 distro installed on an old Gateway laptop. This distro uses a stripped-down version of Lubuntu with the LXDE desktop. Upon login, the taskbar at the bottom of the screen flashes several times and disappears. When I open a terminal and type in lxpanelctl config, nothing happens (when I type in lxpanelctl <any command> nothing happens).
I have to reboot several times and even then sometimes I cannot recover the taskbar. This seems to be an ongoing issue with LXDE (I've found forum posts from 2009 alluding to the same problem). Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to do about this?
Thanks!
jb
Taskbar flashes then disappears upon login
Re: Taskbar flashes then disappears upon login
LXDE is a minimally integrated system, which means most components are independent and can be replaced. So just replace the lxpanel with a different panel. I recommend http://lxlinux.com/fbpanel.html. Or install stalonetray, which I think includes a taskbar.
