Hiding Volume Control Panel

I have been trying for a couple days now to change the behavior of the Volume Control Panel on my taskbar for LXDE 16.04. All other panels on the taskbar close when I click away from their window except for the volume control slider. Is there any way to have the panel hide when focus changes to another window, and if so, how would I go about making that behavior a permanent part of the panel's configuration.
