Newly Created User Account has LogOff button but no Shutdown

Post by mountainmonkey »

Hello,
My original user account has several options when clicking the Red button in the LXDE logo in the lower lefthand corner. Some options are Log-Off, Hibernate, and Shutdown.

I've just created a new user account for a friend and the only option is "Log-Out"/"Log-Off". How can I get the Shutdown option in this newly created account?

Thanks

Another way to describe the problem is to say:

The command

Code: Select all

lxsession-logout
gives only one option, namely, Logout.

Hi,

it seams, that your user doesn't have the rights to shut down the computer, is he in the group "power"? You check this by typing "id" in a terminal.

maces,
thank you for your reply. I've lent my LXDE netbook to a friend already, and so won't be able to try the "id" until next week. But hope to do so after I get the netbook back.

How come LXDE/Debian does not automatically take care of these things?

I had the same problems using slim as login manager, while it was working with gdm. But somehow later it worked in slim, too. What login manager are you using?

Well, I dont know what distro you are using, Gentoo at least has the file /etc/conf.d/xdm to configure your login manager. It could be written in there.
